| Kasese
District is located in the western region of Uganda, with over 70% of the
population engaged in agriculture. The district has fve major rivers
(Lhubiriha, Mubuku, Nyamwamba, Nyamugasani and Sebwe) that seasonally burst
their banks, causing foods which destroy agricultural felds, infrastructure,
and cultural and heritage sites. This is a result of human activity along the
riverbanks, including unsustainable cultivation, animal grazing and sand
mining. The communities are however responding by restoring the degraded
riverbanks and increasing community awareness in a bid to reduce loss and
damage. |
